Did you know that unprocessed emotions can make us physically ill?
Knowing how to work with your emotions, rather than suppressing them, is one of the keys to physical, emotional and mental health and it can literally change your life!
Do you try to think positively, or behave in ways that aim to reduce your emotional activity?
Have you ever experienced being told that you're being 'over-emotional'?
Have you been taught that emotions are something to gain control over, only to find yourself losing control of them at the worst time or inadvertently releasing them in full force onto someone you love?
For a long time, we have been taught that emotions can be classified as 'positive' or 'negative'.
The positive ones (such as joy) are cherished and the so-called negative ones (such as anger) are to be feared.
In fact, what research shows quite the opposite to be true.
Emotions are 'energy in motion'.
They are a way that we experience our life and express our inner experiences.
All emotions come from the same place - our body.
They are created in partnership with, and communicated via, our organs, the vagus nerve and travel a pathway to our brain for interpretation / action.
Emotions carry a 'charge' - you've felt that in your body when you experience them. For example: joy is expansive and light, anger is hot and intense; sadness is heavy and fluid; fear is contracted and breathless; disgust is avoidant and nauseating.; surprise (or shock) is breathtaking and frozen.
Knowing how to work with your emotions rather than suppressing them is one of the keys to physical, emotional and mental health.
This is because suppressed emotions don't just go away.
Instead, the energy of them is kept within you and can cause ongoing stress, muscle contraction, inflammation, dysregulation (when you have extreme emotional reactions to events that don't match their intensity, such as road rage, or being triggered easily by family members) and eventually contribute to problematic thoughts, anxiety, depression and dis-ease in your body.
I will teach you about the common emotions we experience in our lives, how they work within your body, how to understand them, process them, release them and integrate the events to which they are connected.
I cannot overemphasize how freeing it is to be able to work with your emotions rather than against them (ie, when you suppress them).
I will teach you how to do this gently, compassionately, slowly and in a trauma-informed way.
The method I teach you can be used even in the most difficult situations, which means you are less likely to be triggered into emotional outbursts that you find hard to process.
You'll have a renewed view of what emotions actually are and how to work with them instead of against them.
